Everyone’s favorite practical sedan just got a little less cautious and a lot more fun. The Civic Type R is confirmed to make its debut in America, most likely with a release date in 2017 as a 2018 model. This car joins a (short) list of Honda’s forays into high-performance vehicles.

The Type R has been cruising streets of Europe since early 2015, causing a healthy buzz among American car dealers and enthusiasts itching to get behind the wheel of Honda’s take on a racing car. Now that the vehicle is sure to hit the states in the reasonably near future, we had to ask …

What exactly is it that we’re waiting for?

The new Type R will be a hatchback, the most unique but certainly not the most impressive point of departure from the traditional Honda Civic look. The Type R Civic will also showcase a triple exhaust in the middle of its rear bumper, enlarged grills, and red and black interior details.

They’re markings of a fast car … a sports car … a car with a lot of power … A car with:

The I-VTEC 2.0L Turbocharged Engine

The new Honda Civic Type R is bringing it’s fancy European engine with it on its long trip stateside. This compact engine boasts a powerful 306 horsepower via a non-optional 6-speed manual transmission. If you can’t drive a stick shift, it might be time to learn how before this speedster makes its U.S. debut. The Civic Type R’s top estimated speed is 167 mph.

The Civic Type R is an exciting product of Honda’s movement to reconnect with car enthusiasts and experts. We’re all for the added spice in a line of practical and reliable cars, so we’ll be waiting to check out this one right along with you. However, for those of you who prefer more immediate gratification …
